Description

Terephthalic acid dibenzyl ester is a reactive dye that changes color when it reacts with metals. It is used in the preparation of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and other polymers. Terephthalic acid dibenzyl ester has a low energy, which means that it does not emit much heat or light when heated or exposed to light. This property makes it useful for recording devices such as thermometers and recorders. The hydroxyl group on the aromatic hydrocarbon allows this compound to react with unsaturated alkyls, which are compounds containing carbon-to-carbon double bonds. Terephthalic acid dibenzyl ester has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity in rats by increasing glucose uptake into skeletal muscle cells.
