Description

Tanshinone IIB is a natural product that has been shown to have significant antibacterial efficacy. It binds to the bcl-2 protein, which is involved in apoptosis and the transcription of inflammatory genes. Tanshinone IIB also inhibits the activity of nf-κb binding activity, a proinflammatory transcription factor that regulates the expression of many genes. Tanshinone IIB has been shown to be an inhibitor of P-glycoprotein (P-gp) and other drug efflux transporters, which may result in increased bioavailability. In addition, tanshinone IIB has been shown to inhibit the metabolic response and inflammatory response to injury. This compound also binds to DNA and may cause gene mutations that lead to cancer by inhibiting DNA synthesis.
