Tetrapropylammonium hydroxide is an inorganic compound that can act as a catalyst for oxidation reactions. It is a colorless liquid with a strong alkaline odor. Tetrapropylammonium hydroxide is stable in water and does not decompose on heating to about 300°C. The optimum concentration for this chemical varies depending on the type of reaction it is used for; however, it typically ranges from 0.5 to 5%. Tetrapropylammonium hydroxide has been shown to be effective at removing hydrogen fluoride from water vapor, sodium carbonate, and hydrogen chloride. It also has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the release of reactive oxygen species by neutrophils.
