It was postulated that 1,1,2,2-Tetramethylcyclopropane undergoes ring-opening to form methyl radicals and methane monooxygenase as the reaction mechanism. The activation energy for this reaction was found to be 76 kJ/mol at room temperature. The product of this chemical reaction is methane monooxygenase. 1,1,2,2-Tetramethylcyclopropane can be used in reactions where the substrate concentration is low or when high temperatures are required.
