It is a fluorinated acrylic acid that can be made by reacting phosphorus pentachloride with fluorine gas. This reaction produces functional groups such as hydroxyl and carbonyl groups. 2,3,3-Trifluoroacrylic Acid polymerizes under catalytic reduction to form poly(2,3,3-trifluoroacrylate) (PTFAA). Copolymerization with other similar compounds such as vinyl acetate or methyl acrylate can also be conducted to produce PTFAA copolymers. 2, 3, 3-Trifluoroacrylic Acid is soluble in organic solvents.
