2-Trifluoromethyl-2-hydroxypropionitrile (TFP) is a reducer that stabilizes, protects and enhances the effectiveness of pharmaceuticals. It is used in radiation-sensitive pharmaceuticals, such as vinylic biofilm inhibitors and lithographic resists. TFP has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by reducing the levels of thymine nucleosides, which are essential for DNA synthesis. This drug also increases the sensitivity of photoresist films to ultraviolet radiation.
