TFTSO has been shown to be an aliphatic nucleophile with a strong nucleophilic character. It reacts with acyl halides and oleum to produce sulfates. The mechanism for this reaction involves the formation of a sulfuric acid intermediate that reacts with the acyl halide or oleum: TFTSO + RCOCl → RSFTSO + RCOOH TFTSO + HSO → RSFTSO + HSOH
