3-(Trifluoromethyl)benzophenone is a chemical compound that can be used for cross-coupling reactions. It is an efficient method for allylation of electron-deficient alkenes with trifluoromethanesulfonic acid, sodium carbonate, and monolayer phosphite catalysts. The reaction is highly selective and has been shown to be kinetically controlled. 3-(Trifluoromethyl)benzophenone can also be used as a substitute for benzoic acid in the synthesis of amides and polyvinyl ethers. It is relatively inexpensive, stable, and provides low energy coupling conditions. 3-(Trifluoromethyl)benzophenone has been shown to be an effective catalyst in the chloride-promoted calcium carbonate polymerization.
