Description

10-Methylundecanoic acid is a monocarboxylic fatty acid with a molecular weight of 194.1 g/mol and an empirical formula of C11H22O2. It has a melting point of 13°C and its density is 0.918 g/ml at 25°C. 10-Methylundecanoic acid is soluble in chloroform, but insoluble in ethanol or water. It has been used as an active methylene for the preparation of sephadex G-100, which is used for separation and purification of proteins and nucleic acids. This compound has also been found to be useful as a viscosity modifier for polycarboxylic acids such as isovaleric acid. 10-Methylundecanoic acid can be found in many natural compounds such as capsicum annuum (chili peppers), teicoplanin (a drug), and monocarboxylic acids like
