Description

L-Threonine is an amino acid that belongs to the branched-chain family of amino acids. It is a nonessential amino acid, meaning that it can be synthesized by the human body. L-Threonine is one of the two amino acids (along with L-Serine) that has a hydroxyl group on the alpha carbon atom. It is also used in certain metabolic pathways such as sphingolipid metabolism and tryptophan metabolism. L-Threonine is used in experimental models for bowel disease and intestinal cancer, but its role in these conditions has not been determined. The molecule can be found in both animal and plant proteins, but most often it occurs in animal sources.
