Description

Varenicline hydrochloride is a nicotinic receptor agonist that is used to treat bowel disease. It is available in the form of solid dispersions and orally as tablets. Varenicline hydrochloride prevents acetylcholine from binding to its receptors, which leads to relief of symptoms such as abdominal pain, constipation, and diarrhea. Varenicline hydrochloride has been shown to increase the level of dopamine in the striatum by acting on α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. It also has been shown to have an effect on locomotor activity and inflammatory bowel disease in rats.
