Description

Warfarin is a drug that is used to prevent blood clots, which can lead to heart attack, stroke, and pulmonary embolism. Warfarin interacts with cytochrome P450 enzymes in the liver. It inhibits the synthesis of vitamin K-dependent clotting factors by binding reversibly to the enzyme's active site. Warfarin has been shown to be effective in humans at low doses and has been shown to inhibit transcriptional regulation of human genes by competitive inhibition of transcriptional cofactors.
