Description

Xanthopterin monohydrate is a natural pigment found in some animals and plants. It has been shown to have a thermodynamic stability close to that of hemoglobin, as well as x-ray crystal structures. Xanthopterin monohydrate has been used in the diagnosis of human serum and wastewater treatment. It can also be used to measure the redox potentials of biological samples. The compound has been shown to inhibit tumor growth and increase the antitumor response when used with other cancer treatments. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to regulate transcriptional activation of genes involved in autoimmune diseases such as type 1 diabetes mellitus and rheumatoid arthritis.
