• Description: 1,2-Dimethoxyanthracene-9,10-dione is a compound that has been synthesized and is used as a starting material for the synthesis of alizarin. It has bactericidal properties with an MIC value of 0.5 mg/mL and is active against both Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. It also shows thermally induced bactericidal activity with a thermal death time of 1 hour at 50°C. This compound has a helical structure with two methoxy groups on each end, which allows it to bind magnesium ions in the cell membrane, making it possible for the compound to enter the cell. The 1,2-dimethoxyanthracene-9,10-dione molecule is also able to bind chloride ions.
