Description

1,2,4-Trichloro-5-methoxybenzene is a mixture of isomers. It has been postulated to be an adipose tissue contaminant and an industrial chemical. The chromatographic analysis of this chemical in adipose tissue showed that it isomerized to the cis form in the body. 1,2,4-Trichloro-5-methoxybenzene has been shown to be present in methyl palmitate plants and crystallizes as a racemic mixture. This chemical also has two hydroxyl groups; one on the ring structure and one on the methyl group. 1,2,4-Trichloro-5-methoxybenzene has been used as a chiral analytical method for fatty acids because it can be separated into its two isomers by using a gas chromatography with flame ionization detection (GC/FID).
