3-Hydroxyquinuclidine-3-carbonitrile is an imidazoline drug that was synthesized as a structural analogue of histamine. It has been shown to have antihistaminic and antiserotonin properties, which are antagonistic to the effects of histamine in the body. It also has been shown to have anticancer activity, which may be due to its ability to inhibit DNA synthesis and cell division by binding to the enzyme topoisomerase II. 3-Hydroxyquinuclidine-3-carbonitrile is structurally related to chlorpromazine, but it is much more potent than chlorpromazine.
