Description

Ethyl 4-phenyl-2,4-dioxobutanoate is a hydrogenated derivative of the pyrazole. It has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi. Ethyl 4-phenyl-2,4-dioxobutanoate has an active methylene group that is susceptible to nucleophilic attack by amines. This chemical also has fluorescence properties that may be used in pharmaceutical preparations. The carbonyl group on the ethyl 4-phenyl-2,4-dioxobutanoate molecule can undergo reactions with nucleophiles such as malonic acid or hydroxy groups found on other molecules.
