DL-AP4 is a competitive antagonist of the metabotropic glutamate receptor type 4 (mGluR4). It inhibits the mGluR4 receptor and blocks the action of glutamate, which is an excitatory neurotransmitter. DL-AP4 has been shown to inhibit locomotor activity in rats and to have physiological effects such as reducing the release of some neurotransmitters. In addition, DL-AP4 has been shown to reduce epileptic seizures in animal models.
