Description :
5,6-Dichloro-2-(hydroxymethyl)benzimidazole (5,6-DCMB) is a bifunctional antibacterial agent that inhibits both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It has been shown to be active against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, and fungi such as Candida albicans. 5,6-DCMB also has antifungal activity in certain conditions. The mechanism of action for 5,6-DCMB is not fully understood but it is thought to work by inhibiting the synthesis of proteins required for cell division.
