This compound emits light when heated or irradiated with ultraviolet light or visible light sources such as lasers, LEDs, or halogen lamps. The fluorescence properties of this substance have been extensively studied using fluorescence techniques. Crystal x-ray diffraction studies show that the molecule is linear with a C3v symmetry and contains two fused rings (benzene) with an electron withdrawing group on one ring
