Ω-Muricholic acid-d5 is a natural compound that belongs to the group of bile acids and has been shown to have physiological effects in the treatment of bowel disease. Ω-Muricholic acid-d5 is an analogue of chenodeoxycholic acid, a bile acid that can be synthesized from cholesterol. It has been shown to bind to the enzyme responsible for synthesis of cholic and udc acid, which are metabolites of chenodeoxycholic acid. Ω-Muricholic acid-d5 is used in animal studies as a potential therapy for chronic liver diseases, such as primary biliary cirrhosis and primary sclerosing cholangitis.
