Ethyl 2-iodopropionate is a model complex that can be prepared in a single step. It is a monomer with an hydroxyl group and a crystallography of C2/c. Ethyl 2-iodopropionate has been used to study the interaction between organometallic complexes and metal ions, as well as the voltammetric response of these complexes. The crystal structure of ethyl 2-iodopropionate has been studied by X-ray diffraction methods at 100 K. The crystal lattice contains two molecules per unit cell, each molecule consisting of one ethyl group and one iodine atom.
