- 2-[4,7-Bis(Carboxymethyl)-1,4,7-Triazonan-1-Yl]Acetic Acid
2,2',2''-(1,4,7-Trioxane-1,4,7-triyl)triacetic acid (NOTA) is a metal chelator or radioligand that is used in the diagnosis of prostate cancer. It binds to prostate receptors and can be detected using diagnostic agents such as radionuclide or positron emission tomography (PET). This molecule has also been shown to have tumor treatment properties by inhibiting prostate cancer cell growth and inducing apoptosis. Its high affinity to commonly multivalent radiactive metals such as lutetium (Lu-117), gallium (Ga-67), indium (In-111), yttrium (Y-90), gadolinium (Gd(III)) and yttrium (Y(III)) to form the metal chelate is very important to be used as MRI contrast agents in imaging and radiolabeling. NOTA, as other similar compounds like DTPA, DOTA and TETA, binds to integrin receptors on the surface of cancer cells.
