Description

Vestitol is a hydroxylated analog of estrone that has been shown to inhibit mitochondrial membrane potential and increase the production of reactive oxygen species. It is not very potent, with a low IC50 value of 0.2 μM in cells expressing the C. glabrata gene for fatty acid oxidation. Vestitol also inhibits human hair growth when applied topically, and has been shown to be effective against alopecia areata in laboratory mice (m2 phenotype). The compound is an isoflavonoid biosynthesis inhibitor and it has been shown to have a biological effect on humans as well as other mammals, including rats and dogs.
