It has been shown to reduce plasma cholesterol and low density lipoprotein (LDL) levels in animals and humans, as well as decrease the size of atherosclerotic lesions in animal models. 2OICC is metabolized by esterases and glucuronidases, which hydrolyze it into octadecanol, indoleacetic acid, and carboxylic acid. The drug binds to human plasma proteins with high affinity and this binding affects its pharmacokinetics. 2OICC has been found to be absorbed through the skin (percutaneous route) after topical application in humans.
