2-(Cbz-amino)-2-methylpropanamide is an anti-HIV agent with potent antiviral activity. It is a synthetic, cell-based and systematic inhibitor of HIV reverse transcriptase. In addition, it has been shown to inhibit the replication of other retroviruses such as SIV and FIV. 2-(Cbz-amino)-2-methylpropanamide inhibits the synthesis of DNA by inhibiting the enzyme reverse transcriptase, which is essential for viral replication. The IC50 value of 2-(Cbz-amino)-2-methylpropanamide against HIV reverse transcriptase was found to be in the low nanomolar range. 2-(Cbz-amino)-2-methylpropanamide also has a high potency against the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) pseudotyped virus (MTV1).
