It is used in toxicity studies and has been shown to be nontoxic in mice at high doses. 4-(2-Nitrophenoxy)benzamide has been shown to be effective against coxsackievirus, but not against other viruses such as herpes simplex virus type 1 or human cytomegalovirus.
