Description

3-Hydroxy-1,5-naphthyridine-4-carbaldehyde is a compound with antileishmanial activity. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of Leishmania donovani promastigotes in vitro and demonstrated a broad spectrum of antileishmanial activity against L. braziliensis, L. mexicana, L. guyanensis and L. panamensis promastigotes. 3-Hydroxy-1,5-naphthyridine-4-carbaldehyde is an enamine that can be synthesized from commercially available starting materials in good yield by a sequence of reactions involving ether formation, pyridine synthesis, synlett reaction, and cleavage of the resulting ether to produce the desired product in high yield. 3HNAA is also catalytically active for oxidative cleavages of esters into carboxylic acids or amides and methyl ethers into their corresponding alcohol
