4-Phenylsulfonylaniline is an antibacterial agent that belongs to the group of sulfide, sulfoxide, and tuberculostatic agents. It has been shown to be effective against bacteria in environmental samples. 4-Phenylsulfonylaniline has anti-tuberculostatic activity, which may be due to its ability to form a covalent bond with DNA. This binding prevents transcription and replication of bacterial DNA and causes DNA strand breakage. 4-Phenylsulfonylaniline is also known as a drug development candidate for tuberculosis treatment because it has been shown to be resistant to some strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
