3-Hydroxy-L-tyrosine methyl ester is a prodrug that is converted to L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-DOPA) in the body. It has potent antagonistic effects on the dopamine receptors and may be used for inflammatory bowel disease and autoimmune diseases. 3-Hydroxy-L-tyrosine methyl ester has been shown to have a long half life and slow release effect, which makes it a good candidate for treatment of infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, where treatment time can be prolonged. 3HETE has been shown to have antiinflammatory effects, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
