Octatriacontane is a fatty acid that belongs to the group of polymeric matrix fatty acids. It is synthesized in the body from various dietary sources and is a component of lipoproteins and lipid particles. Octatriacontane has been shown to inhibit microbial infection by preventing attachment of bacteria to tooth surfaces. This action may be due to its ability to prevent water vapor from penetrating into the cavity, thereby reducing the amount of available water for microbial growth. Octatriacontane also inhibits bacterial growth by inhibiting antibody response, which may be due to its ability to block lipoprotein lipase activity or its ability to alter metabolic profiles.
