5-Diazo-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxane-4,6-dione is an inorganic compound that is used as a sensitizer to produce acrylonitrile. It can be prepared by the reaction of hydrazine and diazomethane. 5DMDDD has been used as a photoelectron sensitizer for the detection of azides and diazo compounds. The ultrafast generation and transfer of electrons from 5DMDDD to other molecules allows for the preparation of acid anhydrides with acetonitrile or azobenzene. Preparative methods include the use of
azide ion sources and peroxide oxidant.
