2-(2-Ethoxyethoxy)ethyl acrylate is a reactive chemical that undergoes polymerization and crosslinking reactions. These reactions are initiated by the presence of water vapor. 2-(2-Ethoxyethoxy)ethyl acrylate is used in cell culture to provide a surface that can be coated with growth factors and other molecules to promote the growth of cells. 2-(2-Ethoxyethoxy)ethyl acrylate has a reactive site that can be activated by particle radiation, such as electron beams or x-rays, to produce free radicals. The hydroxyl group on this molecule reacts with zirconium oxide to form an adduct, which is then heated at high temperature to produce 2-(2-Ethoxyethoxy)ethyl acrylate particles.
2-(2-Ethoxyethoxy)ethyl acrylate also undergoes thermal expansion when heated, which may result in cracking of the polymerized material.
