2-Isopropenyltoluene is a solvent that is used in the production of polymers and coatings. It is an aliphatic hydrocarbon that has a high resistance to oxidation and polymerization reactions. 2-Isopropenyltoluene can be stabilized with BHT, which provides protection against light, heat, and oxygen. 2-Isopropenyltoluene reacts with magnesium oxide to produce magnesium salt and phenylmagnesium bromide. This reaction solution can be used as a catalyst for other organic reactions such as the synthesis of polymers or pharmaceuticals. The reaction products are aromatic hydrocarbons containing functional groups, which make it useful for the production of polymers or coatings that are resistant to acids or alkalis. 2-Isopropenyltoluene has also been shown to have anticancer properties in mice models.
