Description :
2-Hydroxy-4-methylbenzyl alcohol is a quinone that has been shown to be an effective test compound for DNA irradiation. It is a methyl ester homologue of 2,3-dihydrobenzo[1,4]dioxine and 2,3,5,6-tetrahydrobenzo[1,2-b:4,5-b']dithiophene. This compound has been found in epiphytic plants such as Selaginella erythropus and Selaginella tamariscina. The presence of this compound in these plants may be due to the fact that it is transported by solvents like acetonitrile or benzene.
