Description

N-[4-(2-Bromo-ethoxy)-phenyl]-acetamide is a synthetic lipid that is used as a membrane material. It has been shown to form liposomes and lamellar phases with hydrophobic cavities. The amphiphilic nature of this compound allows it to self-assemble into bilayers, which are the basic structure of biological membranes. N-[4-(2-Bromo-ethoxy)-phenyl]-acetamide is able to form liposome structures by binding to phospholipids that are present in the cell membrane. This compound also has the ability to be used as an optical probe for microscopy, as it can be observed under polarized light. N-[4-(2-Bromo-ethoxy)-phenyl]-acetamide can also be used as a catalyst for polymerase chain reactions (PCRs).
