5-Hydroxymethyl-1H-imidazole-4-carboxylic acid methyl ester is a molecule that inhibits the activity of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and has been shown to inhibit tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα) production. It also serves as an inhibitor of kinase domain, which is a protein domain responsible for transferring the phosphate group from ATP to other proteins. 5-Hydroxymethyl-1H-imidazole-4-carboxylic acid methyl ester binds to the EGFR in its kinase domain, preventing phosphorylation and activation. This compound has been shown to have antiinflammatory properties in knockout mice with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). 5-Hydroxymethyl-1H-imidazole-4-carboxylic acid methyl ester may be effective against inflammation in humans due to its inhibition of TNFα production, which is induced by
