• Description: 2-Chloro-6(methylamino)purine is a potent inhibitor of xanthine oxidase. It is structurally similar to allopurinol, an inhibitor of xanthine oxidase that is used to treat gout. 2-Chloro-6(methylamino)purine inhibits the enzyme by forming a noncompetitive complex with it, which prevents the production of uric acid. This compound has been shown to be effective at inhibiting xanthine oxidase in humans and has been used as a lead compound for the development of new inhibitors of this enzyme.
