This compound is an asymmetric synthesis of the enolate of 7-chloro-trans-2-heptenoic acid. It has been used to synthesize β-unsaturated esters and amides. The compound has also been shown to inhibit bacterial growth in a number of bacteria, including Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica.
