4-Methoxy-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-c]pyridine (4MP) is a prodrug that has been developed as an experimental antiviral agent. 4MP has shown potent antiviral activity in vitro against HIV and other viruses. This compound is designed to be activated by the enzyme CYP3A4, which is present in a high level in human liver and small intestine. 4MP has been tested in clinical trials for its safety and efficacy in infected patients with HIV. Studies have shown that 4MP can be used to prevent the development of AIDS, but it may not be sufficiently potent to provide therapeutic benefit. The pharmacokinetics of this drug have been studied and optimized to increase its effectiveness.
