2-Ethynylbenzamide is an organic compound that belongs to a class of compounds known as phthalimides. It is the nucleophilic analogue of benzamide and reacts with nucleophiles in the same way. 2-Ethynylbenzamide has been used in biological studies to study nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, which are ion channels found on the surface of muscle cells. The isomers of this compound have different optical properties and react with palladium complexes to form palladium(II) complexes. 2-Ethynylbenzamide can be synthesized by oxidative carbonylation or by coupling with aryl chlorides and aryl bromides in the presence of a palladium catalyst.
