• Description: Aprotinin is a pharmacological agent that inhibits the activity of enzymes such as plasmin, kallikrein, and trypsin. It is used to prevent or reduce the severity of ischemia-reperfusion injury in heart surgery. Aprotinin also inhibits platelet aggregation and promotes blood coagulation. The drug has been shown to inhibit the activity of x-ray crystallographic inhibitor molecules that are involved in intermolecular hydrogen bonding and multivariate logistic regression. Aprotinin has been shown to have effects on eosinophil cationic protein (ECP), which may be related to its anti-inflammatory properties.
