2,3,5,6-Tetrachlorobiphenyl is a polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) that contains two phenyl rings and four chlorine atoms. 2,3,5,6-Tetrachlorobiphenyl is a toxicant that can cause cancer in humans and animals. It has been found to be an endocrine disruptor that interferes with the synthesis of sex hormones such as estrogen and testosterone. This chemical also causes oxidative stress in cells and may lead to cell death. The toxicity of 2,3,5,6-tetrachlorobiphenyl can be reduced by dechlorination or reductive dehalogenation using a carbon source such as glucose or acetate.
