Description

1-Cyclopropyl-1-(4-methylphenyl)ethanol (CPME) is a potent inducer of human liver cytochrome P450 1A2, 2B6, and 3A4. It also suppresses the expression of efflux proteins in wild-type strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. CPME has been shown to be a strong inducer of DNA binding activity in Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells. CPME also binds to the dna binding site on protein synthesis and blocks the polymerase chain reaction process by forming a covalent bond with the DNA template strand. This inhibits the production of proteins vital for cell division. CPME can be found as an isolated compound or in combination with other drugs such as antimicrobial peptides and cyclic peptides.
