Description

Polpunonic acid is a secondary metabolite found in plants. It has been isolated from the roots and stems of the plant, Punica granatum L. Polpunonic acid has shown to be an analytical reference material for HPLC standards, as well as a potential natural product with pharmacological properties. The chemical structure of polpunonic acid is characterized by the presence of two hydroxyl groups, one carboxyl group, and one methyl group. This molecule is soluble in water and methanol. Polpunonic acid has been reported to exhibit anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities in animal models, as well as antimicrobial activity against bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes.
