Description

Methamphetamine is a psychostimulant drug that is used both as an athletic performance enhancer and as a recreational drug. Methamphetamine is most commonly found in the form of a white, odorless, bitter-tasting crystalline powder. It is usually swallowed or snorted, but can also be injected or smoked. Methamphetamine has a high potential for abuse and addiction. Methamphetamine increases blood pressure, heart rate, and body temperature. It also damages nerve cells in the brain by causing increased release of dopamine in the synapses, which can lead to strokes and other health problems. Methamphetamine use can cause withdrawal symptoms such as depression, anxiety and fatigue.

Methamphetamine has been shown to be effective in treating attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children with ADHD who were not responding well to other treatments such as methylphenidate (Ritalin).
