Ceftazidime impurity B has been shown to be toxic to gram-positive bacteria, such as Enterococcus faecium and Staphylococcus aureus, but not to gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli. In addition, it has been shown to have no effect on the IL-2 receptor of T cells or the binding of penicillin-binding protein. It has also been shown to be safe for injection into mice and rats in toxicity studies.
