4-(5-Methyl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)pyridine is a fluorescent anion that has been used as a luminescent probe to study metal coordination. It can be detected at very low levels because of the high efficiency and emission of its fluorescence. 4-(5-Methyl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)pyridine has been used in studying the reaction system with metal ions. This compound is also able to form coordination complexes and has been used as a ligand for magnetic materials. The isomeric nature of this chemical makes it attractive for use in research on low detection limits in luminescence.
