Description

10,11-Dehydro misoprostol is a prostaglandin E analog that can be used to induce labor. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of women with an incomplete spontaneous abortion, as well as for use in post-partum hemorrhage and uterine atony. 10,11-Dehydro misoprostol is administered via intra-amniotic injection or orally. This drug is also used to prevent postpartum hemorrhage following delivery or curettage. 10,11-Dehydro misoprostol should not be given to pregnant women who have an active infection or who are allergic to prostaglandins.
10,11-Dehydro misoprostol binds to the cytosolic protein prostaglandin receptor found on the surface of cells lining the uterus and initiates a series of intracellular reactions that lead to increased levels of cyclic AMP (cAMP). The increased cAMP levels cause
