Camedon is a medicine for chronic viral hepatitis. It is also used to treat infections caused by human pathogens, such as bacteria and fungi. Camedon is an antiviral drug that belongs to the group of interferons and has been shown to be active against a wide range of viruses from different families. Camedon inhibits the synthesis of viral proteins, which are essential for the replication of viruses in cells. The activity index (AI) of Camedon against hepatitis B virus (HBV) is 0.6-0.8, while AI values against influenza A virus and vesicular stomatitis virus are 0.3-0.4 and 0.2-0.3, respectively. The inhibitory effect of Camedon on HBV replication can be attributed to its ability to inhibit both DNA polymerase and RNA polymerase activity.
